TOTAL CARE is committed to assuring access to high quality, comprehensive, cost-effective health care services to Family Health Plus, Child Health Plus and Medicaid eligible populations throughout the State of New York, respectful of the dignity of those we serve, and responsive to the needs of our members.
The Affordable Care Act (ACA), passed by Congress in March 2010, expands the availability of health insurance coverage for individuals, provides consumer protections and creates marketplaces (exchanges) to assist individuals and families with comparing plans and purchasing insurance coverage.
New York State has established a website dedicated to the exchange program. Beginning in October 2013, Individuals and families will be able to use the Marketplace to compare commercial insurance options, calculate costs, sign up for programs like Medicaid and Child Health Plus, and check your eligibility for health care and select coverage online.
A provision of the ACA known as the individual mandate will require U.S. citizens and legal residents to have health insurance in 2014. Those without coverage will pay a tax penalty based on household income.
